Top 10 Foods to Avoid

The Top 10 Foods to Avoid For Your Health

We are what we eat. What we consume becomes the foundation of our health and well being - the inner and outer fabric of our bodies. According to Harvard Medical School, what we eat has a direct impact on the structure and function of our brains and even affects our mood. Therefore, it’s in our best interest to eat the most supportive and wholesome foods to fill our bodies with the proper nutrients to heal and thrive. Find the most nutrient-dense and supportive foods you should be eating in our Liver Cleanse post.

If you have ever had any sensitivities or conditions, struggled with illnesses (such as acne, psoriasis, IBS, chronic fatigue, depression, etc.), or if you are at all concerned about your health in general, then listen up!

It’s important to stay away from as many triggers as possible, including certain foods and ingredients that are harmful to our bodies. According to one of our favorite experts, the Medical Medium, these foods, and ingredients feed existing viral, bacterial, and fungal conditions leading to inflammation. Kaya experienced inflammation from dairy and various other foods which caused acne, brain fog, bloating, and fatigue. Many of the foods we list below can be hard on your organs, disrupt your digestive system, weaken your immune system, destroy your brain’s neurons, cause anxiety and depression, and much more.

Before we get started, we want to define GMOs, as they are in many of the foods we discuss below. According to the Non-GMO Project, “a GMO, or genetically modified organism, is a plant, animal, or microorganism whose genetic makeup has been modified in a laboratory using genetic engineering or transgenic technology. This creates combinations of plant, animal, bacterial, and virus genes that do not occur in nature or through traditional crossbreeding methods.” From this process comes foods that are consistently flavored and are resistant to disease and drought. The Center for Food Safety states, “genetically modified foods have been linked to toxic and allergic reactions, sickness, sterile and dead livestock, and damage to virtually every organ studied in lab animals."

There is lots of controversy over whether GMO’s are harmful to your health. GMO’s, however, are unnatural in every way, shape, or form. And it is not safe to ingest something that is genetically engineered in a lab. It is important to know what GMOs are and what they do as they are in so many foods we consume daily. Let’s dive into a few below:

Corn

In the past, corn was one of the best sources of nourishment on earth. Sadly, the technology of genetically modified organisms (GMO) has destroyed it as a viable food source. Corn, and all of its byproducts (popcorn, corn cereal, corn chips, corn syrup, corn oil, etc.), now create inflammation in our bodies. It feeds viruses, bacteria, mold, and fungus. Even if you see it being advertised as non-GMO, the chances are high that it can still trigger health conditions and that it may still be GMO.

Dairy

Milk, cheese, butter, cream, yogurt, and other dairy products contain a substantial amount of fat, which is hard on your digestive system and especially your liver. It is an inflammatory food which contributes to worsening acne and dairy fat in your bloodstream helps to spread viruses and bacteria. If it wasn’t already problematic enough, the conventional practice has turned dairy into a toxic food by creating industry pressure to give hormones, antibiotics, GMO corn and soy, and gluten to cows, goats, and sheep that we then consume. When Kaya stopped eating dairy, she noticed her acne subside.

Soy

Soy is similar to corn. It used to be healthy but now often has some GMO contamination or added MSG. Soy includes soybeans, edamame, miso, soymilk, soy sauce, textured vegetable protein (TVP), soy protein powder, artificial meat products made from soy, and much more. Soy contains estrogen-like compounds called isoflavones, which promote the growth of some cancer cells, impair female fertility, and mess with thyroid function. It is an endocrine disruptor, meaning that it mimics estrogen in the body, which may lead to a hormone overload.

Hormones help to regulate things like metabolism, sleep cycles, reproductive cycles, mood and stress levels, and body temperature. If you have a hormone overload, this can lead to unexplained weight gain or loss, excessive sweating, difficulty sleeping, skin issues, changes in blood pressure and heart rate, anxiety and depression, bloating, infertility, and so much more. This is why it is extremely important to stay away from soy, so that you don’t have a hormone overload.

MSG

It is important to read food labels carefully as MSG is often hidden. The following terms all have MSG in them: glutamate, hydrolyzed, autolyzed, protease, carrageenan, maltodextrin, sodium caseinate, balsamic vinegar, barley malt, malt extract, yeast extract, brewer’s yeast, corn starch, wheat starch, modified food starch, gelatin, textured protein, whey protein, soy protein, soy sauce, broth, bouillon, stock, and seasoning.

Also, any ingredient with a name like “natural flavoring” is hidden MSG. Natural lemon flavor, natural orange flavor, natural blueberry flavor, natural turkey flavor, natural chocolate flavor, etc., are not just fruit extracts and contain multiple biohazards and chemical compounds. They have slipped under the radar and have been allowed in thousands of foods advertised as good, safe, and healthy.

Farmed Fish

Since farmed fish are raised in small enclosed spaces creating a breeding ground for algae, parasites, and other diseases, the breeders give the fish antibiotics and treat the water with toxic chemicals that we then consume. The safest fish to eat is wild-caught, such as salmon, halibut, and haddock. You still need to be careful of mercury, especially with swordfish and tuna.

Canola Oil

Canola oil is mostly GMO at this point. Regardless, the oil causes inflammation and can be damaging to your digestive system. It is also a major cause of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Canola oil can feed viruses, bacteria, fungus, and mold. It has a similar effect to battery acid on the inside of your arteries, creating significant vascular damage. Unfortunately, canola oil is used in many restaurants and in so many products as a low-cost alternative to olive oil. If canola oil is even a tiny part of a perfectly healthy dish of organic and all-natural ingredients, you should probably avoid the dish entirely because of how destructive canola oil is to your body. If you are dealing with a mystery illness or a health condition, you should be avoiding it at all costs.

Processed Beet Sugar

Sounds healthy, like it comes from the sugar of beetroot, however, it’s sadly just another attempt by the food industry into tricking the consumer into thinking the product is healthier than it is. Processed beet sugar contains a high amount of GMO and feeds cancers viruses and bacteria. Now, this is different from the beets you buy at the grocery store, which are safe to consume.

Eggs

Eggs have been an amazing survival food for thousands of years. But this changed in the 20th century, when autoimmune, viral, bacterial, and cancer epidemics began. Eggs cause inflammation and allergies, feed viruses, bacteria, yeast, mold, candida, and other fungi.

The average person eats over 350 eggs a year (whole eggs but also all the foods containing eggs in the ingredients) and eggs are a prime food for cancer and other cysts, fibroids, tumors, and nodules. So if you are trying to prevent cancer, fight existing cancer, or avoid a cancer relapse, you need to stay away from eggs. Women with polycystic ovary syndrome, breast cancer, or other cysts and tumors should be staying away from eggs. Furthermore, if you are struggling with any illness, such as Lyme disease, lupus, chronic fatigue, migraines, or fibromyalgia, staying away from eggs can vastly help your body get better. Ending message – stay AWAY from eggs.

Pork

Due to the high-fat content, it is best to avoid pork, ham, bacon, lard, etc., when trying to heal any chronic illness.

Gluten

Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, rye, and spelt. These create disruption and inflammation in your intestinal tract and bowels. They also trigger celiac disease, Chron’s, and colitis. Eating these grains can make it hard for your body to heal.

This is just a surface overview of how these foods can harm us. We will dive deeper into the specifics in future posts but just wanted to get them on your radar!
